The Kean family understand the importance of family, community spirit and Scotland’s place as a producer of world class spirits. Any one of these elements can bring people from all walks of life together to celebrate rare, memorable moments. These principles form the foundations for the RAER range of spirits – great spirits crafted with skill and care to be savoured and enjoyed.

The Patriarch of the Kean family was a keen whisky drinker and admired the diversity of brands, stories and whiskies produced across Scotland. Also, with the family ties to farming, the Kean family knew Scotland was a world leader in producing premium food and drink. However, Scotland’s national drink also had some outdated stereotypes of who whisky was for. It was a male drink and could only be drunk a certain way. The Kean family wanted to make whisky accessible for all, so the idea of creating a distillery on the farm was born to produce premium spirits, create a legacy for the family, and create employment opportunities for the local area.

Playing a role in the community, the family had allocated one of the farm buildings on the family farm as a space for the community sports centre and a space for charities, clubs and other community organisations to use. As these clubs and organisations outgrew the current building, the family helped contribute towards constructing a new purpose-built stadium and facilities not far from the town. With the empty farm building sitting dormant, the family saw this as the perfect space for the new distillery and began renovating what would eventually become the Jackton Distillery.

The distillery laid down its first new make spirit in 2020, a smoother, naturally sweeter spirit used in the production of the RAER range of whisky created using barley grown on the farm along with waste from the production process used as animal feed and fertiliser helping increase the distilleries focus on sustainability. The distillery also launched its signature single-batch Jackton Gin in 2021, along with its Jackton Vodka. Although the distillery and team have continued to grow, the founding principles of the founder have inspired the spirits produced at the distillery – premium spirits crafted to be enjoyed and remembered with every sip.
