Introducing The Gin Cooperative Awards 2024 Finalists

The Gin Cooperative Awards 2024, now in its third year, once again saw a wide and varied number of entries from established and new Scottish Gin brands. The Scottish Gins entered this year covered a range of recognised gin styles with solid representation across all. Since we launched in 2022, our awards programme has continued to evolve, with the addition of new awards, refining the scoring system, growing the judging panel, and expanding the judges guide. This year we introduced a new cost structure, so entering The Gin Cooperative Awards provides even more value for money. Another significant addition to this year’s awards is the new Highly Commended Award. A Highly Commended Award will be given to an entry that showed exceptional qualities and came within a 3% margin of a bronze award.

The Gin Cooperative Awards 2024 Judging Panel

This year’s judging panel featured 72 judges: 24 industry judges, 24 consumer judges, and 24 community judges, divided into 8 judging groups. Each group featured 3 industry judges, 3 consumer judges and 3 community judges. Every entry sample had 81 individual scoring elements that were used to provide the final scores. 

Judges were given our in-depth judging guide, which spans 34 pages and covers every aspect of judging, including our unique scoring system. Unlike some spirit competitions, every score is allocated weight and meaning, so the judges know what a 5 for palate represents compared to a score of 5.5. The judge’s guide also covers how to prepare the samples, hints and tips for judging best practices, and how to judge the samples safely, fairly, and consistently. We also had some new judges across the community and consumer judging panels, all carefully selected.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all our judges for their time, dedication, and the insightful judging notes they provided. These notes will be shared with the entrants once the final winners are announced later this month. We understand that judging any spirit is a time-consuming and challenging task, requiring judges to set aside personal preferences. Having been involved with judging other competitions and awards, we can attest to the significant effort that goes into spirit judging. We are once again delighted with the quality of judging and the hard work our panel has put in to ensure that the scores accurately reflect their sensory experiences. Thank you.

Outstanding Contribution to Scottish Gin Award 2024 – sponsored by The Gin Cooperative – The global resource for all things Scottish Gin.

Outstanding Contribution to Scottish Gin Award is awarded to a brand, business or individual who has had a positive and tangible impact on the Scottish Gin category. The winner of this award is selected by The Gin Cooperative.

We’ve spent the best part of six years contributing to the Scottish Gin category, driven by our passion for the category and the many unique aspects of the industry that make it special. We’ve met countless people, from distillers and brand ambassadors to professors, tour guides, mixologists, and everything else in between. 

Our industry insight has provided us with a wealth of knowledge and led to many conversations about which businesses, organisations and individuals have positively contributed to the growth, success and promotion of the Scottish Gin category.
