A marriage of crystal clear spring waters from the Storr Lochs and the right balance of the finest botanicals goes into making the multi award-winning Misty Isle Gin. Juniper berries are hand foraged from various wild locations around Skye and slowly distilled in copper pot stills, then vapour infused with botanicals. The bottle design represents the mountainous landscape and turbulent seas surrounding the Isle of Skye while the label accurately shows The Black Cuillin, some of the most spectacular mountains in Britain and the copper foil elements are a nod to their gin stills.

In 2017, brothers Thomas and Alistair Wilson decided to escape the rat race and follow their dream of setting up the first commercial gin distillery on their home island of Skye. Both accustomed to hard graft and long days, the brothers wanted to ensure their gins captured the true spirit of the landscape they had grown up around. Their 'Misty Isle' bottle design represents the mountainous landscape and turbulent seas. Their label accurately shows The Black Cuillin, some of the most spectacular mountains in Britain, while the copper foil elements of the label are a nod to their gin stills.

Distilled Gin

Distilled Gins are similar to London Dry Gins, except natural or artificial flavourings can be added after the distillation process. The flavours can vary greatly and some gins can often cross over to other gin styles, for example where sugars have been added to created an Old Tom style gin or maceration with fruit to create a Flavoured Gin. Some Distilled Gins also follow the London Dry style to the letter but go on to include additional botanical/s to their gin post-distillation and therefore can’t be classed as a London Dry Gin. Distilled Gin is sometimes referred to as Contemporary, New American, New Western or International style gin.

The Isle of Skye Distillery can be found in the island’s capital of Portree. The distillery is home to two traditional alembic style copper pot stills. All the distillation, bottling and labelling takes place at the distillery. Also located in the town is the Isle of Skye Distillers’ shop and gin school, providing visitors with the chance to distil their own personalised Isle of Skye Gin under the watchful eye of Alistair or Thomas Wilson.
