Vicky and Dale McQueen had the ambitious plan of starting up their own distillery where they could create and produce gins that were unique, original and added something new and exciting to the world of Scottish Gin. In 2016 the Trossachs Distillery was established based in Callander in the lower Highlands of Scotland. They wasted no time getting to work creating an original, bold range of Scottish Gins that were unique and innovative. With demand and growth over the next fews years came the opening of the Robert McQueen building in 2019. The new 6,200ft² distillery will allow Dale, Vicky and the team to increase production capacity by over 1000%.
Flavoured Gins vary in flavour and colour. Often the gin will be infused with a flavour post-distillation through maceration or even the addition and blending of individual distillates or essences. Sometimes the gin will be created in one distillation. These styles of gin often have a key flavour which tends to lead the flavour profile, such as fresh berry fruit, citrus or any number of possible key botanicals and flavours. Although this gin style should still include juniper, it is often not the leading botanical.
The Trossachs Distillery, home to McQueen Gin, can be found in the heart of the Trossachs National Park, Scotland’s oldest National Park, which is the gateway to Loch Lomond. Just a short drive from the picturesque town of Callander, the distillery, now housed in the renovated Robert McQueen building, offers panoramic views over the stunning landscape from its elevated position. The team have seen impressive growth over the last few years and one of the latest improvements includes a state of the art bottling line, which sees them finish a case of gin every 8 seconds, allowing capacity of 5 million bottles per year on a single shift 5 day pattern.
