After years in the making and hundreds of hours, trials and rounds of development, Kilty Gin was brought to life by founder Richard Thurlow-Begg. Endless amounts of time researching, educating and refining Kilty Gin has been spent to ensure this gin is of the highest quality. It is described as a bold, juniper-led London Dry style gin. Made with ten botanicals, mostly traditional but locally foraged rowan berries add an additional depth of character.
Tasting Notes
Flavours
Nose
A refreshing citrus nose followed up by the higher floral notes of the heather tips and the enticing orange and cardamom elements. An underlying fresh juniper backdrop.
Taste
The handpicked rowan berries impart a rounded sweetness, and the cardamom provides a lovely warming character. Towards the end a clear crispness comes through from the pink peppercorns.
Finish
Orange and cardamom end the show as they gradually fade away to leave soft, pleasant finish.

About Kilty Gin
Lovingly distilled in the heart of Scotland, Kilty Gin is inspired by travels and adventures around the many beautiful and majestic landscapes that surround us. The Kilty Gin story started with a passion for Scotland’s most famous spirit, whisky. Having fallen in love with the history, romanticism, quality and variety of Scotch whisky, the founders were inspired to create their own spirit that could itself start its own lasting legacy. It took almost two years for the founders and creators of Kilty Gin to launch from first conception. They didn’t want to rush the product and create something half-hearted. Having put their hearts and souls into this, they bring a gin to market that they are truly proud of.
Production
The Kilty Distillery itself is small and family run. The whole journey was inspired by owner Richard’s late grandfather, who was a hugely passionate maker of wine. It took 3 years of planning, learning and applications from the initial idea to the first drop coming off the still in 2019. Richard still uses some of his Grandpa’s old equipment in the distillery and will be using some of his old wine recipes as inspiration for future gin expressions. The distillery houses a 250 litre Geniostill, producing between 190 and 200 bottles per batch. These are individually bottled and hand labelled and numbered at the distillery. A total of 10 botanicals are used in Kilty Gin. Orange and lemon are vapour infused in the baskets at the base/middle of the vapour column, with heather tips in a basket at the very top of the column with the remaining botanicals macerated in the still. Richard is also experimenting with a Rotavap in the distillery for future expressions.
