About
The range of Kelso Gins reflect the changing nature and seasons of the beautiful and bountiful Scottish Borders, using natural and locally foraged ingredients. Made by real people (with real passion) with the finest quality organic pure grain all based on The Crow Man’s original powerful tinctures. Legend tells that The Crow Man was a travelling medicine man who toured the Borders offering the ailing, the weary and the lovelorn ‘little brighteners’ from his leather gladstone bag. Tales were told of men who were restored and women who were soothed by his special mixes of herbs, spices and secret ingredients.
London Dry Gin
London Dry Gin is both a flavour profile and a production method. London Dry Gins tend to follow the traditional, classic flavour of piney juniper, citrus and spice. Alongside juniper, botanicals in London Dry Gin often include orris root, angelica root, cassia bark, citrus peel and coriander, among the core botanicals. The result is a dry gin that features piney juniper along with bursts of citrus and warming spice and earthy, dry notes from use of botanicals such as cassia bark and coriander. Nothing synthetic can be added like flavourings or colours and nothing can be added post distillation apart from water and a tiny amount of sugar meaning all flavours come from distillation.
Production
The Kelso Gin distillery can be found on the rural site that forms the Harestanes Countryside Visitor Centre and estate. Discreetly tucked away, the only thing that really gives away the age of the building that houses the distillery is the carved stone sitting above the door dated 1887. The distillery features two large, traditional style alembic copper stills where all the Kelso Gin Company products are distilled. All bottling and labelling is done by hand on-site and also the waxing of the bottle caps. If you’re lucky, you’ll receive a bottle with the special crow’s foot print imprinted in the wax seal.
