Arran Gin is a ‘punchy’ gin that shows its island flavours, habitats and seasons. Arran’s Meadowsweet, Noble Fir, Sea Lettuce and Common Hogweed Seed all make for a powerful flavour profile. The taste evokes Arran itself: coastline and hilltop on the first nose followed by floral and honey; spice and citrus on the palate. It has a luxurious, creamy mouthfeel with a long, smooth finish.
The Isle of Arran is an island of adventure and escape; stunning seascapes that wash ashore below snow covered peaks, an abundance of wildlife, fauna and rich in wild botanicals. That was the starting point for the four creators of Arran Gin - including an island shopkeeper and local artisan baker. For the team at Arran Botanical Drinks, the creation of their gin has been a long and exciting adventure starting in 2018.
London Dry Gin
London Dry Gin is both a flavour profile and a production method. London Dry Gins tend to follow the traditional, classic flavour of piney juniper, citrus and spice. Alongside juniper, botanicals in London Dry Gin often include orris root, angelica root, cassia bark, citrus peel and coriander, among the core botanicals. The result is a dry gin that features piney juniper along with bursts of citrus and warming spice and earthy, dry notes from use of botanicals such as cassia bark and coriander. Nothing synthetic can be added like flavourings or colours and nothing can be added post distillation apart from water and a tiny amount of sugar meaning all flavours come from distillation.
Production
After foraging for the perfect seasonal, local botanicals and lots of recipe development, the team decided to partner with award-winning distiller Simon Fairclough at Persie Distillery. The team are currently working on creating a wider distribution network and online shop with plans to build a micro-distillery on the island soon.
