In early 2019, production of Tyree Gin moved back to the island of Tiree. The story of the distillery is one that started back in 2017 when the gin was first launched. Although originally produced outside of Scotland, the founders had always planned to bring distillation back to Tiree, a small island off the west coast of Scotland.
After a lot of planning and growing the brand, in February 2019, the founders finalised renovation of an industrial shed in West Hynish in the southwest of the island and after a break of 217 years, Tiree was once again home to a legal operational distillery. The gin takes its name from the original spelling of the island before it was changed in the middle of the 18th century to Tiree.
A gin that was created to capture the essence of Tiree and the local island landscape. Surrounded by the vast Atlantic Ocean, the gin features kelp harvested from the local coastline to give a distinctive taste of the seas. When distilled the kelp provides a slightly salty but sweet flavour along with other botanicals including eyebright, ladies bedstraw, water mint and angelica all combined to create a complex but clean flavour profile that has notes of floral vanilla notes capturing the spirit of the island.

The distillery can be found in the remote area of West Hynish, which is south-west on Tiree.
