When husband and wife Steven and Jenny McKerr and their young and growing family had the chance to take on a small farm in 2017 located in rural South Lanarkshire, the couple knew they had a unique opportunity to create something special. A farm that celebrated Scottish food and drink and somewhere the couple could build a legacy for their three daughters.

With a background in agriculture and food production, Jenny had seen and experienced first-hand the quality and range of food grown and produced in Scotland. When Jenny and Steven, who already had a successful and growing agricultural and commercial fencing business, took over the farm, many of the buildings needed to be renovated and modernised.

Together, the couple set to work on the not-so-small task of converting the original milking room into a micro-distillery where Jenny could create a range of spirits that both celebrated and respected Scotland’s farming heritage along with creating a range of gin liqueurs that infused fresh fruit and bold flavours. Besides more traditional flavours, Jenny wanted to develop gin liqueurs that reminded her of her childhood and trips to the local sweetie shop.

Jump to the present day, the farm, which is a working farm with a range of livestock, is home to The Wee Farm Distillery along with the Steak & Still Farm Shop, which stocks a wide range of regional and national goods and fresh produce, all carefully selected to complement the ethos of the farm and showcase the very best food and drink. Jenny and Steven also added The Distillers Cottage in 2021 and Drovers Lodge in 2023, holiday accommodation perfect for larger groups or families who want to explore and experience the local area.

Drovers Gin

Drovers Gin is the signature Scottish Gin from The Wee Farm Distillery and takes its name from Scotland’s Drovers. Drovers were responsible for transporting livestock by foot across Scotland, often navigating dangerous routes and spending the night in the wilderness with their livestock to prevent them from being attacked by wolves or stolen by bandits. Drovers Gin is a tribute to the many men and women who sometimes lost their lives protecting and nurturing their livestock over the centuries. It’s in part thanks to these hardy Drovers that Scotland has built its reputation for producing some of the best food in the world. The flavour profile for Drovers Gin was created to complement food, with the inclusion of pink peppercorns and allspice, along with a nod to some of the botanicals the Drovers would have encountered on their travels, heathers and thistles. Other botanicals include juniper, coriander, citrus peel, cassia, angelica, orris root, and liquorice. On the nose piney juniper, citrus and some subtle floral notes. On the palate light, refreshing, citrus with a hint of heather up front. A well balanced blend of zesty orange and gentle spices. On the finish Dry, crisp with a lingering pine freshness and spice notes.
