When Allan retired from the police force, he launched a social enterprise dedicated to helping build a school in Rwanda to help disadvantaged kids. Through this he met and formed a friendship with Tony Reeman-Clark, the renowned craft Distiller and founder of Strathearn Distillery. With Tony’s help and encouragement, Selkirk Distillers was formed. The Selkirk Distillers are Allan and Jane Walker and Dave and Susan Myatt, two couples from Selkirk who believed that the Scottish borders with it’s rich history and wealth of natural resources could produce high quality spirits.
Jane is a community Nurse and has lived in the Borders town of Selkirk most of her life. Dave is a former Artisan Sergeant of the Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers, and his 22 years of engineering experience have been invaluable. Susan is a qualified Assistant Clinical Physiologist at the local hospital.
The main botanical in Selkirk Gin grows wild on the local rolling lowland hills. The whin flower, known as the Golden Flower of Thor, is handpicked, cleaned and dried by the creators before infusing it within their gin. Some of the other botanicals include angelica root, grapefruit, lemon and orange peel.
