Mark and Alison Hazell settled in Scotland nearly 20 years ago after finding their dream house, The Jaw, a 300-year-old miller’s cottage nestling on the shores of Bardowie Loch. They were inspired by a cutting from the Glasgow Herald of 1822, which described the actions of a particularly vigilant Excise Man who apprehended a gang of illegal distillers at the west end of Bardowie Loch.
The couple started by setting up a microbrewery in Glasgow producing craft beer and so Jaw Brew was born. Before long work began on developing their gin.
Mark and Alison wanted a tasty and distinctive gin and experimented with using a number of potential botanicals gathered from their garden and surrounding area. They arrived at a wonderfully citrusy London Dry Style Gin which they called ‘Bardowie’ as they live on the magical Bardowie Loch near Milngavie.
Mark and Alison wanted the bottle to be beautiful, to reflect the picturesque and natural surroundings on Bardowie Loch. They use a unique blend of botanicals including blackcurrants, ground elder, the stem of a bulrush and bay, which are all locally sourced and hand foraged with care by Bardowie Loch. Hints of freshly cut grass amongst the citrusy, nutty and subtly spicy freshness give Bardowie Gin its signature flavour and aroma.
