Having established several booming tourism and hospitality businesses in the town of Tarbet on the northern shore of Loch Lomond, Arrochar Alps Gin co-founders Jane Ireland and Raymond Anderson were faced with a massive hurdle when the UK came to a standstill with the first Covid lockdown in March 2020. Already connoisseurs and supporters of the Scottish Gin category, stocking and selling various brands through their businesses, the couple saw an opportunity to create a Scottish Gin brand that highlighted the local area and could generate additional income to help keep staff employed.
The couple started developing the brand, working with the team at Lost Loch Distillery, who helped create the liquid, before officially launching The Cobbler Gin in March 2021. The Gin takes its name from the local mountain and landmark The Cobbler, a famous local landmark for hillwalking, mountain biking and climbing.
The Cobbler Scottish Gin uses a number of locally sourced botanicals including wild mint, Scots Pine and Scottish oats along with a number of classic gin botanicals including juniper and cardamom. The flavour and nose feature a menthol freshness along with piney juniper, citrus and some spice notes on the finish.
Key Botanical(s): Scots Pine, Scottish Oats, Wild Mint
Gin Style: London Dry
Strength: 40% ABV
Goes great with: A slice of orange, tonic and ice.
The word Sonsie is an old Scottish word for good luck or good fortune, optimistic and welcoming. Sonsie Scottish Gin takes the concept of this word and translates it into a Scottish Gin that’s warming, sweet and fresh. Distilled using honey, oats and Scottish berries, the flavour profile is an ode to the classic Scottish dessert Cranachan, minus the whisky element. Red berries combine with oats and honey to create a gin that’s got deep fruity notes, a mouthfeel with some richness and cream, along with a sweetness on the finish.
Key Botanical(s): Scottish Honey, Scottish Oats, Scottish Berries
Gin Style: Distilled
Strength: 40% vol
Goes great with: A slice of fresh lime, tonic and ice.
