The Isle of Arran is an island of adventure and escape; stunning seascapes that wash ashore below snow covered peaks, an abundance of wildlife, fauna and rich in wild botanicals. That was the starting point for the four creators of Arran Gin – including an island shopkeeper and a local artisan baker.
For the team at Arran Botanical Drinks, the creation of their gin was a long and exciting adventure starting in 2018. From foraging all year round for the perfect seasonal, local botanicals to recipe development and test distilling. The last steps of the initial journey found the team working with the ‘big’ pot still and working alongside award-winning distiller Simon Fairclough of Persie Distillery. The team plans to create a wider distribution network and online shop and build a micro-distillery on the island soon.
Arran Gin is a ‘punchy’ gin that shows its island flavours, habitats and seasons. Arran’s Meadowsweet, Noble Fir, Sea Lettuce and Common Hogweed Seed all make for a powerful flavour profile. The taste evokes Arran itself: coastline and hilltop on the first nose followed by floral and honey; spice and citrus on the palate. It has a luxurious, creamy mouthfeel with a long, smooth finish.
