Scottish Gin of the Year Award 2023
Scottish Gin of the Year Award is given to the three Scottish Gins which scored the highest number of points for taste neat, taste as a gin and tonic and packaging.
Celebrating Scottish Gin
The Gin Cooperative Awards combines taste and packaging, providing producers with a score and feedback that is truly representative of their product in its entirety. Tasting also goes one step further than most competitions, as the entries are scored both neat and as a gin and tonic. Our judging panel includes individuals from the spirits industry, the gin community and consumers, carefully selected so our awards programme is a real-world reflection of all types of gin drinkers.

The categories for The Gin Cooperative Awards 2023 cover the key gin styles and production methods, specifically London Dry, Distilled, Flavoured, Bathtub, Navy Strength, Old Tom, Cask Aged. Entries will go through a rigorous and considered judging process, looking at the qualities of the spirit neat, how it works with tonic and how the gin is presented in the bottle. The top scores for each will be collated to award our Gold, Silver and Bronze winners across each of the categories and 14 awards.
Taste Score: Every entry will be judged blind (other than an indicator of category and approximate ABV). Every entry will be judged by a minimum of 9 separate judges – 3 industry judges, 3 community judges, 3 consumer judges. Entries will be scored neat and as a gin and tonic; judged on appearance, nose, palate, finish and mouthfeel. Judges will also provide a personal judge’s score out of 100.
Packaging Score: Packaging will be scored based on the bottle, design and shelf appeal.
A “drink and judge responsibly” message will be communicated to all judges throughout the judging process.
