The Gin Cooperative Awards is a celebration of Scottish Gin with awards combining taste, which judges the entries neat and as a gin and tonic, along with a score for packaging. Our judging panel includes individuals from the industry, the gin community and consumers, carefully selected so our awards programme is a real-world reflection of all types of gin drinkers. The categories for The Gin Cooperative Awards 2023 cover the key gin styles and production methods, specifically London Dry, Distilled, Flavoured, Cask Aged, Navy Strength and Old Tom. Entries go through a rigorous and considered judging process, looking at the qualities of the spirit neat, how it works with tonic and how the gin is presented in the bottle. The top scores for each are collated to award our Gold, Silver and Bronze winners across each of the categories and 13 awards.
Taste Score: Every entry is judged blind (other than an indicator of category and approximate ABV) by a minimum of 9 judges – 3 industry judges, 3 community judges and 3 consumer judges. Entries are judged neat and as a gin and tonic; scored on appearance, nose, palate, finish and mouthfeel. Judges also provide a personal judge’s score out of 100.
Packaging Score: Packaging is scored based on the bottle, design and shelf appeal.
A “drink and judge responsibly” message is communicated to all judges throughout the judging process.
