The Isle of Arran is an island of adventure and escape; stunning seascapes that wash ashore below snow covered peaks, an abundance of wildlife, fauna and rich in wild botanicals. That is the starting point for the four creators of Arran Gin – including an island shopkeeper and local artisan baker.
For the team at the Isle of Arran Gin Co. the creation of their gin has been a long and exciting adventure. From foraging all year round for the perfect seasonal, local botanicals to recipe development and test distilling. The last steps of the initial journey found the team working with the ‘big’ pot still and working alongside award-winning distiller Simon Fairclough of Persie Distillery. The team are planning on creating a wider distribution network, online shop and building a micro-distillery on the island soon.
Arran Gin is a ‘punchy’ gin that shows its island flavours, habitats and seasons. Arran’s Meadowsweet, Noble Fir, Sea Lettuce and Common Hogweed Seed all make for a powerful flavour profile. The taste evokes Arran itself: coastline and hilltop on the first nose followed by floral and honey; spice and citrus on the palate. It’s a creamy gin, with a long, smooth finish.
