In our Shaken & Stirred series, we ask Scotland’s Gin makers what cocktail works perfectly with their Scottish Gin and, just as importantly, how can we make it at home?
This gin basil smash cocktail has been created by the team at The Gael Spirits Company, using their distinctive The Gael Gin, which is five times distilled from malted barley using a blend of traditional botanicals and a hint of Scottish heather. The result, a gin with a light citrus nose, following through with juniper, cardamom and a warm finish. The spirit works perfectly in this well balanced cocktail entitled Tayside Pesto.
• 60ml The Gael Gin
• 12 Basil leaves
• 25ml Fresh lemon juice
• 10ml Simple syrup
• 20ml Dry Vermouth
These measures are a guide only and can be tailored to suit your own personal taste.
Muddle basil and gin, add other ingredients and shake with ice. Double strain into old fashioned glass with cubed ice. Garnish with basil sprig.
