Pink Gin has risen in popularity over the last few years, but the original Pink Gin cocktail is, quite simply, gin and bitters. This cocktail was born on the high seas created by the British Royal Navy during the 1800s. Sailors used Angostura bitters to help them settle their stomachs while at sea. To make the bitters palatable they would mix them with their daily rations of gin, turning it pink. Understandably fond of their concoction, it wasn’t long before sailors took it ashore, and by the 20th century it was famous the world over. Here’s our very own Scottish Pink Gin. For this cocktail we went with Hendrick’s Gin.
These measures are a guide only and can be tailored to suit your own personal taste.
Pour the gin, bitters and water into a mixing glass and stir. Strain into a cocktail glass and dress with a maraschino cherry.
