Arbroath based Smithies is a family run deli and gin emporium established in 2000 by Patti Smith. The shop was originally a Thomas Lipton grocery shop and former butchers before refurbished as the deli. They renovated and kept the original Lipton tiles (the very few left in the UK) and the meat hooks from the butchers, which gives Smithies a unique, yet traditional appeal.
Smithies Deli is a coffee shop, delicatessen, cheese-monger and drinks emporium. They stock rum, vodka, port, whiskey, liqueurs and most famously – gin! Smithies started sourcing gins in 2012, just when the gin industry really started to take off. The Smiths now take great pride in sourcing and stocking the very best gins on the market, so much so that in 2017, they changed the name of the shop to include ‘gin emporium’. As well as stocking over 100 Scottish gins and over 100 international gins, Smithies also have a great selection of tonics & mixers. Keep an eye out for their in store gin evenings!
